George Lucas turns 69!
As one of the most successful figures in the film industry, writer, director and producer George Lucas is best known for creating the Star Wars franchise and Indiana Jones.
In addition to his lucrative franchises, Lucas also worked on a number of popular films throughout the eighties and nineties including Willow, The Land Before Time and Labyrinth, starring David Bowie.
If we journey back to the beginning of his career, we find one of the first hit films George created, 1973's American Graffiti. Starring a fresh faced Harrison Ford, Ron Howard and Candy Clark it documents the cadillac cruising, rock and roll culture of American teens.
Spanning over the course of one evening, it follows a group of friends in Modesto, Califronia the night before they leave for college. The film has gone on to become one of the highest grossing films of all time, costing $775,000 to produce and earning over $200 million.
More recently, Lucas has recruited the original cast of Star Wars, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels to create Episode VII, due for release in 2015.
