Walt Disney World opens.

Named after the Disney founder, Walt Disney World opens in Orlando, Florida. In 1971 around 10,000 visitors assembled in Orlando to witness the grand opening of the 300,000 acre resort.

The Magic Kingdom featured Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Tomorrowland, a Main Street USA and around 5,500 cast members.

On top of all of that Walt Disney World also debuted 2 property hotels and a village resort both connected by a monorail!

Walt Disney sure had some grand plans when it came to building the Walt Disney Resortm but the visionary sadly died in 1966, several years before it opened.

Today, Walt Disney World sees nearly 17.54 million visits making it the No 1 resort in the world.
